Cross-Border Digital Currency of the Year - Africa, 2026

500 million adults across Sub-Saharan Africa are economically active and financially excluded. No bank account. No access. No infrastructure built for them. Umoja Coin is building it.

The most immediate consequence of that exclusion is remittances. Africa receives $54 billion a year from its diaspora and loses up to 14% of every transfer in fees. UmojaPay fixes that with a mobile-first platform that onboards on a fingerprint alone and moves value at 1% cost via Umoja Coin, a closed-loop utility token fixed at 1 UMC = 1 USD.

The bigger prize is cross-border payments. A $200 billion market that remains slow, fragmented, and expensive. Umoja's 5-layer infrastructure, combining digital wallet, physical agent network, and grassroots Kumi Cell community adoption, is built to own those corridors. MVP launch is imminent across Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ghana.

This is not a fintech product. Revolut changed Europe. M-Pesa changed East Africa. Umoja is here to change the continent.
